Dad and Tom
Paramount for the Pattersons is a belief that the earth should be left better for the next generation. Tom's dad purchased P Bar Ranch in 1998 after a 10 year search for a place in Montana where future generations could develop a relationship with the land and an appreciation for life. During their search, the family visited river valleys across Montana before deciding that the Boulder River valley in Sweet Grass County would be the ideal setting for a family ranch. The Pattersons developed a love of the land on their small farm in Grand Junction, Colorado where Tom grew up and his dad still lives.
Inspired by Aldo Leopold, the ranch is managed so that the wide range of ecosystems and wildlife found on the ranch can flourish. Cattle grazing is a management practice that supports the broader objective of maximizing biodiversity and land health.
